FinPrism (finprism.org) is an independent, non-profit financial news project. We collect as little information as we can, we do not sell or share it for advertising, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. This policy explains what happens to information when you visit the site.
Who is responsible
FinPrism is responsible (the “controller”) for the information described here. You can reach us through our contact page; choose “Privacy request” as the topic.
What we collect and why
Server logs
Like every website, our server records basic technical details of each request: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser type and the referring page. We use them only to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse. Logs are deleted automatically after 14 days. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Visitor statistics
We count visits with Matomo, an analytics tool that runs on our own server, so the data is not sent to any analytics company. It is set up without cookies, your IP address is shortened (anonymised) before it is stored, and we do not build profiles of individuals or combine the data with other sources. We use it to see which articles are read and how people find us. Detailed visit records are deleted after 6 months; only totals are kept. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Article view counts
Each article keeps a simple counter of how many times it has been read, used for the “Trending” list. It stores no information about who read it.
Contact messages
If you use the contact form, we store what you send (your message and, if you choose to give them, your name and email address) so we can deal with it and reply. Messages are deleted after 12 months. Legal basis: your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in answering it (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Information stored in your browser
The site saves a few small settings in your browser’s local storage, which never leave your device: your light or dark theme choice, whether you chose to load the TradingView heatmap, and a marker that stops one visit to an article being counted twice. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in to manage the site, WordPress sets the cookies needed for signing in.
Third-party content
The S&P 500 heatmap on our Dashboard is provided by TradingView. It loads only after you click “Show heatmap”; at that point your browser connects to TradingView, which may set its own cookies under its privacy policy. Our fonts and all other content are served from our own server. Links to other websites (for example our sources) take you to sites with their own privacy practices.
Market prices and calendar data are fetched by our server from data providers; your browser does not contact them and they receive no information about you.
Who processes data for us
Our website and its data are hosted on a server in Germany (European Union) rented from a hosting provider, which processes data only to provide that service. We do not transfer your information to anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its use, and to data portability. Because our statistics are anonymised and our logs are short-lived, we usually hold nothing that identifies you, but we will answer every request. Send it through the contact page. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the one in the country where you live.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
Children
FinPrism is a general news site and is not aimed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information about them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
